Service-Learning Reflection
Admiralty Student Care Centre

Introduction
During the white space period , my team and I were given the opportunity to come up with a 3-session long programme which addresses the potential mental health issues of lower primary students from Admiralty Student Care Centre. We chose to address the issue of emotional dysregulation with our programme called, ‘Inside Out’, where we teach the students how to manage their emotions through fun and engaging activities.
Session 1

On the first session, we focused on anger. We taught the children how to identify their triggers and the different ways to combat anger. We also taught them the consequences of built-up anger with a mini volcano activity. To wrap up, we taught them different methods of handling their anger.
Session 2

On the second session, we focused on fear. We taught the children about real and imaginary fears and let them experience fear boxes. They were given the chance to stick their hands into boxes filled with different items without knowing what they were. This activity was very engaging and kept the children in suspense!
Session 3

On the third session, we focused on joy. We allowed the children to create their very own calm bottles using water, glue, colouring and glitter! The children were definitely satisfied after being able to customize their own bottles and bring them home. Afterwards, we taught them how to express their gratitude by encouraging them to write a heart-warming letter to thank their teacher.
